This was a joint workshop of Politecnico di Milano and Antwerp Management School, where we created new concepts for the office furniture company Steelcase. The brief was pretty broad – we had to imagine how the company will interact with dealers in clients in 10 years with the use of modern technologies.

Steelcase prefers to concentrate on the research of ergonomics and psychology factors in the workspace, handling selling activity to the dealers (usually furniture stores). However, customization to client’s needs is very important to the company, so their specialists still have to participate in project development and co-design sessions.

Thus, the challenge we were solving was: how to inspire, empower and educate the dealers in the way that they’ll be able to design and tailor the workspace to their client’s needs

In the beginning we did trends and technologies research and imagined how the work will change.

According to this, we decided to propose a new type of dealer for Steelcase: dynamic individual, performance consultant, instead of furniture store nets which might even be extinct.

The product-service system we propose includes partners: Humanyse, a company which can provide tools to gather relevant data on workspace and process it; and Microsoft, who can provide the virtual reality software to co-designing more effective. In this picture, the dealer uses Steelcase products, research and network for the benefit of the client.
